AMP Global Youth was founded by young people in the aftermath of 9/11, at a moment when the world was changing rapidly and a new generation was asking what role they could play in shaping what came next. Nearly 25 years later, we believe that model matters more than ever.

AMP isn’t simply an organization that creates programs for young people. Young people lead our work. Students and alumni research the issues shaping their generation, develop initiatives, produce resources, advise our programs, build communities, and help determine where we go next. Supporting them is a powerful network of educators, parents, professionals, experts, mentors, and supporters who contribute their skills, experience, connections, and capacity — while keeping youth leadership at the center.

The result is a different kind of organization: a multigenerational network designed to turn participation into capacity and deliver an outsized amount of work and impact through a remarkably lean structure.

Be a Student Leader with AMP Global Youth: Volunteer and Intern Opportunities. 2026-27

AMP Global Youth amplifies the power of young people to understand global challenges, shape solutions, and help design our shared future. Founded by students at Yale in the aftermath of 9/11, AMP has engaged tens of thousands of young people through Global Scholar, civic leadership programs, global policy workshops, youth summits, and other initiatives.

AMP Global Youth is looking for young people from around the world to join our 2026–27 Student Leadership Network and work together on projects addressing global issues, youth voice, democracy, and the future of Global Scholar.

Students join one of AMP’s core teams, collaborate with other young people and AMP staff, and take meaningful responsibility for moving the team’s work forward. Depending on the team, that might mean conducting research, writing and analysis, developing a youth initiative, creating communications, reaching out to partners, helping plan an event, or developing a new program.

Teams & Projects

• State of Global Youth Report: Research and help produce AMP’s State of Global Youth Report, with an initial focus on youth and democracy. Team members will help investigate trends, gather youth perspectives, conduct interviews and research, and contribute to the development of the report.
• ReGen Framework & Youth Summit: Build on the 2026 ReGen Youth Summit and help turn its ideas into action. Team members will help develop the ReGen framework, engage young people and partners, create resources and initiatives, and help shape future ReGen programming.
• Issue Analysts: Follow the global issues shaping young people’s lives and futures. Issue Analysts research topics, identify important developments and opportunities, and help AMP connect young people with ways to learn, engage, and take action.
• Outreach & Communications: Help grow AMP’s reach and tell the story of our work. Team members may contribute to social media, newsletters, storytelling, recruitment, alumni engagement, outreach campaigns, and communications with partners and the broader AMP community.
• Global Scholar Advisory & Development: Help shape what comes next for Global Scholar. Team members will contribute ideas and work on projects related to curriculum, recruitment, alumni engagement, program evaluation, outreach, and new ways of expanding Global Scholar.
• Strategic & Special Projects: Contribute to emerging AMP initiatives and special projects based on organizational needs and student interests.

Ways to Participate

Student Volunteer: Approximately 3 hours/week for a minimum of 12 weeks.
Designed for students who want to become an active member of an AMP team while balancing school and other commitments. Volunteers contribute consistently to projects and Missions and collaborate with other student leaders throughout the semester.

Student Intern: 6+ hours/week for a minimum of 15 weeks.
Designed for students ready to make a deeper commitment, take ownership of larger projects, and assume greater responsibility within their team. Interns may also help coordinate Missions, support other students, and take leadership responsibility for particular projects.

Who We’re Looking For

We’re looking for curious, thoughtful, dependable young people who care about global issues and want to turn their interests into meaningful work.

You do not need extensive experience or expertise. What matters most is a willingness to learn, contribute ideas, collaborate across differences, communicate consistently, and follow through on the work you take on.

Term: Fall 2026–Spring 2027; positions are rolling, but volunteers and interns generally begin toward the start of each semester
Student Volunteer: Approximately 3 hours/week for 12+ weeks
Student Intern: 6+ hours/week for 15+ weeks

No longer a student but eager to support youth leadership? Join us as an AMP Ally: 2026–27

AMP Global Youth amplifies the power of young people to understand global challenges, shape solutions, and help design our shared future. Founded by students at Yale in the aftermath of 9/11, AMP has engaged tens of thousands of young people through Global Scholar, civic leadership programs, global policy workshops, youth summits, and other initiatives.

As AMP approaches its 25th anniversary, we are inviting a small group of Adult Allies to contribute their experience, skills, and capacity to help strengthen the organization and build its next chapter.

Allies are typically adults who no longer identify as students and who work alongside AMP’s staff and young leaders, providing expertise and support in areas where additional adult capacity can make a meaningful difference.

The role is designed to complement — not replace — youth leadership. AMP’s young people remain at the center of our programs and ideas; Adult Allies help provide the experience, connections, and behind-the-scenes capacity that enable those ideas to grow.

Areas of Opportunity

Adult Allies can contribute in one or both of two broad areas:

Strategic Innovations

Help AMP develop the ideas, relationships, and resources that will shape our next chapter.

Projects may include:

• Fundraising & Development — prospect research, fundraising strategy, donor engagement, grant opportunities, and development systems
• Partnership Development — identifying and cultivating organizational, educational, philanthropic, and program partners
• Global Scholar Innovation — exploring new Global Scholar formats, audiences, partnerships, and models for growth
• 25th Anniversary Initiatives — developing partnerships, programming, storytelling, and opportunities connected to the 25th anniversary of 9/11 and AMP’s origins
• New Programs & Revenue Opportunities — researching and developing ideas that can expand AMP’s impact while strengthening its long-term sustainability
• Special Strategic Projects — contributing professional expertise to emerging organizational priorities and opportunities

Organizational & Program Support
Help strengthen the systems and day-to-day capacity that allow a small, ambitious organization to do more. Projects may include alumni outreach and engagement; database and contact management; funder and prospect research; partner research and follow-up; website and newsletter support; social media and communications; program and event logistics; research, writing, and editing; archives and organizational history; and other administrative or program support based on AMP’s needs and your interests.

How We Work
Adult Allies join AMP in a defined volunteer role and are matched with projects or areas of work that make good use of their experience, interests, and availability.

Some Allies may focus on a specific project; others may contribute across several related priorities or become an ongoing resource in an area where they have particular expertise. Strategic Innovations is one area of work available to Adult Allies — not a separate participation category.

Who We’re Looking For
Allies may come from many different backgrounds. You might bring experience in nonprofits, education, fundraising, communications, research, business, technology, international affairs, program development, finance, design, or another field entirely.

More important than a particular professional background is a willingness to contribute your skills in support of a youth-led organization, work collaboratively, and help turn good ideas into action.

Term: Initial six-month commitment encouraged
Commitment: Approximately 5 hours/month
Location: Primarily virtual, with opportunities to lead or support work in particular communities
Who: Adults interested in contributing their skills and capacity to AMP’s work

This position can also be structured to fulfill fellowship, academic, service, or similar participation requirements when appropriate.

Note: This position can be positioned to fit another requirement, for example if Allies need fellowship, academic, or service hours.
