The State of Global Youth Report: Our annual youth-led global research project Highlighting the perspectives and voices of youth

AMP Global Youth’s annual youth-led global research project elevating the perspectives and voices of young people worldwide.

Is the youth voice heard around our greatest challenges? Do young leaders have the support they want to grow into the leaders we need?

The State of Global Youth Report is AMP Global Youth’s annual, youth-led global research initiative. Each year, students in our network — including Global Scholars — lead the development of topics, research design, data collection, writing, and the public launch of the report. This process ensures that the findings are grounded not only in data, but in the lived experiences, priorities, and insights of young people themselves.

Through surveys, interviews, focus groups, and youth-facilitated conversations across countries and regions, the report examines how young people experience today’s world and what they believe must change to create a more just, connected, and resilient future.

Below are highlights from our two most recent reports.

State of Global Youth Report 2025: Trust

In a world fractured by division, disinformation, and distrust, young people are asking a fundamental question: How do we rebuild what has been broken?

At AMP Global Youth, we understand that trust is not abstract — it is lived. It shapes whether a student believes their voice matters in a classroom, whether a young activist trusts institutions to deliver on climate promises, and whether communities can come together across differences to solve problems. Trust is the foundation of the social fabric that holds societies together. And right now, that fabric is fraying.

The 2025 State of Global Youth Report confronts this crisis head-on by exploring:

  • How do young people experience and define trust today?
  • Where is trust breaking down — and where are youth actively working to repair it?
  • What role can young people play in rebuilding our social fabric?

Our research spans critical domains from civic engagement to media literacy, from community organizing to institutional accountability. By centering youth voices and lived experiences, the report reveals how young people navigate an era of unprecedented polarization, technological disruption, and social fragmentation — and how they are building new models of connection, credibility, and collective action.

State of Global Youth Report 2024: Youth Participation

The State of Global Youth Report 2024 explores what drives young people to engage, lead, and shape change in their communities and beyond.

The report seeks to answer key questions, including:

  • What values are driving youth, and what issues do they care about most?
  • What skills do youth need to succeed, and where and how are they gaining them?
  • What opportunities do youth seek to actively participate in shaping a better future?

Our study traverses domains from leadership and political agency to social change, education, mental health, and well-being. By blending data-driven insights with real-life stories, the report illustrates how today’s youth navigate complex global challenges while pursuing personal growth, civic engagement, and career development.

For young people, declining trust is not theoretical — it is lived. It appears in classrooms where voices are dismissed, in news feeds that feel disconnected from reality, and in institutions that speak about youth without ever speaking with them. What is often labeled as apathy is more accurately the result of exclusion and unmet expectations. For youth, trust is not built through promises or slogans, but through fairness, transparency, and the experience of being genuinely heard.
