Design a Better World!

Global Scholar: Arts and Social Change. July 2021, Virtual.

Global Scholar prepares youth to be visionary leaders and bold changemakers around urgent global challenges.

The Time is Now

There is no time to waste in tackling the greatest challenges facing us today, from intolerance to climate change.

Youth Have Power

Youth are the bold and visionary leaders we need to transform our world. No other generation has the fresh perspective and untapped creativity of youth.

We Must Act

Every moment is an opportunity to expand our understanding, work with others to craft solutions, and engage our world. Everything matters.

For the past year, young people have had their lives turned upside down by the worst global pandemic in a century. It’s time to reconnect, restore, and reenvision what our work and our world can look like. Join us for this special opportunity to connect with the visionary, visceral, emotional, and sometimes unspoken side of our work as youth leaders. Designed for artists and non-artists alike, this workshop will help you connect with the ‘why’ of your work, and build new skills to make it happen.

Join us this summer to:

  • Explore key challenges facing us today, from climate change to immigration, to racial justice, through an artistic lens. Through seminars with artists working across mediums, you’ll learn first-hand how creative expression has fueled and reflected some of the biggest social movements we see today.
  • Build powerful skills for engaging your peers and community through workshops focusing on weaving cultural politics and community; digital advocacy; art as social justice; aesthetics; and more. You’ll get hands-on experience creating content to uplift and inspire, guided by artists working in the social justice space.
  • Apply all we have learned throughout the program in our final showcase. You’ll work on a final piece to share with peers and facilitators, and to further inspire youth activism more broadly.

Participants are also invited to monthly small-group mentoring calls throughout the school year, as well as the Power Up, our student gathering in February 2022.

Our incredible featured speakers include:

Joanne Shenandoah

Grammy Award-winning indigenous singer and composer

ellen cherry

Award-winning singer and songwriter

Asia Jackson

Actress and the founder of SKNFLUENCR

Who is this program for?

This program is for rising 9th-12th graders who are curious about integrating arts and social change work and building skills to take action. You do not need any particular prior experience or coursework; the biggest thing we look for is curiosity and eagerness to explore arts and social change. Both artists and non-artists are welcome to apply.

Where will this program take place?

This two-day program will take place online from July 31-August 1, 2021. Days will involve interactive workshops, followed by small group conversations and “challenges” (applied assignments). We’ll have social events, games, and some pre-recorded content too. We’ll be online for about 4 to 5 hours per day with lots of breaks. AMP Global Youth has been designing and delivering exciting online workshops for many years, and we’re incredibly good at what we do. You’re sure to connect, learn, and have lots of fun. After attending Global Scholar, I now feel better prepared to make a positive impact on not only my community but the world. Global Scholar was a really wonderful program that opened my eyes to different ways to make change and think about the systems that make up our world.
